Scottish Football Star
Luis Binks in Year 10 was selected to represent Scotland u16 (2001) in the recent UEFA Development Tournament from Feb 26th to March 3rd held in Edinburgh. This was the 2nd time Luis has been selected to represent his Country after making his debut playing in the Victory Shield tournament held last October/November between Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland, where Scotland finishes as Runners up, losing in the final to Republic of Ireland.
This tournament comprised Scotland, Croatia, Iceland and Austria with games played every other day. Scotland beat Croatia 1-0 in their first game (Feb 27th), then beat Iceland 2-1 in their second game (March 1st) and drew 2-2 in their final game with Austria (March 3rd). As per the tournament rules, all games ending in a draw would result in a penalty shootout. Scotland won 5-3, with Luis scoring the first penalty of the shootout. This resulted in Scotland winning the tournament overall with 8 points, Austria finished in second place on six points with Iceland earning three points and Croatia in fourth on one point. The UEFA Development Tournaments serve to provide under-16 national teams with experience as they prepare to compete in the 2018 UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifiers which begin later in the year. This is a fantastic achievement by Luis, and we look forward to seeing his playing career develop even further in the future.
