Year 10 Kent Cup Final - WINNERS! Match Report
In the Kent Cup U15s The Howard School got to their first ever final, played at The Gallagher Stadium, against Charles Darwin School from Bromley.
With a change of formation to a midfield diamond and playing two players up front, Howard started the game strongly, passing the ball around and closing down Charles Darwin at every opportunity. A well taken goal by Luis Do Santos from the edge of the box after 15 minutes helped settle the nerves. Howard continued to press and a goal from man of the match Harvey Brown before half term confirmed our dominance. The defence was well marshalled by captain Will Sanders and Luis Binks which kept Charles Darwins chances to a minimum, and width was provided by our full backs Craig Sherlock and Tyler King.
In the second half the next goal was crucial, Harvey Brown closed down the goalkeeper from a rushed back pass, the ball deflected into his path for an easy finish. With holding midfielder Nicky Hunt tackling anything that moved he allowed Harrison Pont, Lucas Payne and Harry Laing to make a difference in our final third and keep probing for chances from the outstanding Luis Dos Santos and Harvey Brown who ran the opposition defence ragged. With the game virtually won Charles Darwin scored a consolation goal. Apart from this Joe Walsh commanded his box and didn’t have a noticeable save to make during the game. To finish the game off Harrison Pont scored a 25 year free kick. Without the Charles Darwin keeper making a number of world class saves at the end the winning margin could have been much greater.
Well done to all boys involved for this tremendous achievement, and thank you to staff, parents and pupils for their support.
