Information for Parents about Work Experience
Work Experience helps students understand ‘life’ in the work place, and is a valuable Work related learning task. The placements may not be necessarily what you son wants to do when he finishes school but are intended to enable him to gain experience of work. It will give students a chance to:
- Work with people of all ages and abilities, as part of a team
- Develop and practice a range of new skills
- Become more confident in their abilities and aspirations
- Enhance areas of vocational courses
- Make more informed decisions about their future
How does it work? All Year 10 students are due to go out on Work Experience from 28th June – 2rd July 2010. Students will chose one of the school’s chosen placements, or your son can find his own placement by contacting local businesses, friends or relatives. Once they agreed to accommodate your son in the work place during this time, please obtain the details below as soon as possible in order that Health & Safety checks can be carried out and a job description can be written. If you think travelling to a work placement may be a problem, you may want to consider finding your own placement that is accessible, as the school’s placements can be anywhere in Medway.
Please obtain a contact name, company full name and address including post code and telephone number. Please hand these details to Ms Baker in school.
